Geology is the scientific study of the earth’s crust and the properties of its layers. Petroleum is a complex mixture of liquid hydrocarbon chemicals occurring naturally in the earth. Petroleum Geology is concerned with the evaluation of geological data applied to the search for hydrocarbons. West Bay’s geological staff uses the latest ideas and technology to discover potential locations for oil and gas resources. This process begins by collecting geologic and well data from known petroleum rich areas. The data is then used to construct maps, charts and cross-sections depicting type, thickness and elevation of the underlying rock layers. The various elements are analyzed in order to define possible geological “traps” of oil and gas reservoirs. |
